(Tianwang Sichuan 26 Feb 2012) News from the China Tianwang Human Rights Center: The Chengdu local elections are underway. Wenjiang began voting before dawn. The ballot boxes are not sealed.

Independent candidates Wang Binru and Wu Yong (see video: Chengdu Election Gets White Hot: Police Surround and Capture Wang Binru at http://www.64tianwang.com/bencandy.php?fid=12&aid=9157 ) messaged a volunteer worker for Tianwang: The election is being held between 6 AM and 8 AM. This election is not being conducted according to democratic procedures.

According to reports, today before dawn at 6 AM the Wenjiang District People's Congress election got fully underway. In some electoral districts of Wenjiang, election workers used mobile ballot boxes and organized workers to carry out mobile balloting from 6 AM onwards.

Early in the morning at 8 AM, election workers in some electoral districts of the Wenjiang District completed their work.

According to observations made by independent candidates, during the electoral process, many of the ballot boxes were not sealed. This is a violation of the election law.

According to analysis by veteran Wenjiang right protection activists Yang Zongyi and Zhang Hongyu: supervision of the electoral process was poor. The election observers did not do their work conscientiously. Zhang Hongyu also remarked that observing this election left her with the feeling she is not even one of the "people".

This morning the Wenjiang District election department will remove all the ballots from the electoral district and count the ballots secretly.
